On June 18, the headquarters of Caixa Popular in Paterna (Valencia, Spain) hosted the presentation of the Naranjasyfrutas.com Award for Best Citrus Trade, an accolade that, for the third consecutive year, recognizes best practices in the buying and selling of citrus harvests. The ceremony brought together representatives from all segments of the citrus value chain, further establishing itself as a key forum for dialogue and knowledge-sharing within the sector.
This year’s award went to TOMEGA, a family-owned company based in Vall d’Uixó with a warehouse in Xilxes, which was voted by thousands of citrus growers across Spain as the highest-rated trader during the 2024/2025 campaign.
One of the highlights of the event was the roundtable discussion titled “After the Harvest, Dialogue: Sowing Best Practices,” featuring past award recipients and prominent industry representatives. Among them was Celestino Recatalá, president of Intercitrus, who shared insights from the perspective of the interprofessional organization.
The discussion centered on the need to promote best practices throughout the entire value chain, with a strong focus on transparency and the implementation of fair pricing from farm to point of sale. The roundtable offered a comprehensive view thanks to the participation of both the commercial side — including the two previously awarded companies — and the production side, represented by agricultural organizations such as Intercitrus and La Unió.
The event also featured the presentation of the annual Naranjasyfrutas.com survey results, in which thousands of citrus growers evaluated various aspects of their commercial relationships. The average rating reached an impressive 8.27 out of 10, reflecting a high level of satisfaction and continued progress in the sector's business practices.
